Code Movement

Link Impeccably

It’s important to be able to click on links. If you use a terminal and are running a server, you will often see the url for the dev server. You should configure your setup so you can click on it, and if you are unable to then find better tools.

Here is a sample output for what is seen when running the dev server for this blog using ’npm run dev'.

josh at joshjohansen 🌲 npm run dev

> [email protected] dev /Users/joshjohansen/senofjohan/joshjohansen
> next dev

[ wait ] starting the development server ...
[ info ] waiting on http://localhost:3000 ...
Browserslist: caniuse-lite is outdated. Please run next command `npm update`
[ info ] bundled successfully, waiting for typecheck results...
[ event ] build page: /next/dist/pages/_error
[ wait ] compiling ...
[ info ] bundled successfully, waiting for typecheck results...
[ ready ] compiled successfully - ready on http://localhost:3000

Running this in the default terminal in mac you are not able to click on the url ‘http://localhost:3000’ to open the home page. You can copy the url, open your browser, paste in the url, and hit enter to open the page.

You should find tools and build your links that you often want to click on, so that you can navigate intelligently.

Visual Studio code will let you click links. Pycharm will let you click links. Find tools that do this, and use them. Links are meant to be clicked. Some links, like the home page to your local web server you always want to open, and would be pleasant if your browser could automatically open upon starting. And automatically refresh upon file changes. That would be very nice. People are building tools that do this, they exist, and if you are aware of how you move, and the actions you take, you can seek out tiny ways to improve your experiences. Make your life easier, so that you can look up and out and travel across the digital landscape effortlessly.

Create links and put them in places you want them, when you need them, and use tools that let you click on them.
